What totally moves me about Rosemary is its affinity with wisdom, spiritual connection, ancestral healing and our aging.

On paper, and in research, evidence reflects Rosemary’s wonderful capacity to support memory, cognition and the overall health of brain tissue.

Biochemically it does this through its strong circulation boosting and antioxidant properties, boosting supplies of fresh healthy blood to the brain, and ensuring the tissue stays free from damage from free radicals/oxidation.

But the more energetic and psycho-spiritual properties of Rosemary show us how it can connect us to the spiritual plane (who’s energy centers occur at the top of the body, the head), and to our ancestors and elders who have past, to provide us with their wisdom, clarity and healing for our lineage.

Rosemary, for me at least, provides me with the specific wisdom that often comes with and from age and our elders: slow down, take your time, it will all get done.

I am prone to rushing, and I often take a few drops of my Rosemary tincture before I need to do something that will require focus, attention to detail and for me to go slow, and take my time.

It feels like my elderly and passed grandmas come around me, gently peering over my shoulder, sliding their reading glasses down their nose to see what I’m up to. They take up little craft projects that busy their hands, and together we all do our jobs, whilst their bodies emanate a feeling of ‘go slow my dear, take your time’.

Some people experience Rosemary as a more masculine herb, perhaps a gentle and sage grandfather instead. However you interact with Rosemary, as of course its spirit stretches far beyond gender, this herb will hold the medicine you need around wisdom, clarity, ancestral medicine and spiritual realms.

Rosemary flowers are small and purple - the colour associated with spirituality and divinity. The small shape and colour combined gives a hint about its connection with the subtle realms. The leaves are also small, hardy and somewhat tough - very different to something like a soft, watery and cool aloe vera leaf. An example of its warming, drying, pragmatic and useful nature.

In summation, a significant part (but not all!) of Rosemary is about the head - supporting wisdom and clarity.

The phrase that came to me when I was harvesting this Rosemary and making this tincture was ‘I bring you Clarity of Spirit’

Whether there is an older person wanting support for their cognition and memory (aka clarity), or any person or any age wanting to support their brain, or connect with their lineage and ancestors - Rosemary can be your most trusted guide.

A Special Plant for Me:

I feel especially grateful, as I harvested this Rosemary from my Nanny and Pop’s house right before they sold and moved out of it to move into a retirement home. My Nanny, the matriarch of our family, lovingly tended to this plant with all her being.

Every morning she would walk out onto her verandah, right in front of where it was growing, raise her hands to the sky and give a blessing of thanks to the day:

“Hello grandmother moon, father son and mother Earth, thank you for another beautiful day”.

She attested the health and size of this huge and healthy Rosemary bush to it receiving her daily blessings! Just an extra special tie to its ancestor medicine for me, it's very precious.

Beyond Cognition & Clarity

However, due to its circulation boosting and strong antioxidant capacity, Rosemary is also a fantastic herb for supporting liver function and detoxification in general, and particularly of the hormone oestrogen. An excess of oestrogen can lead to states such as heavy and painful periods, menstrual migraines, fibroids, and endometriosis. Of course these conditions can become complex and nuanced, however ensuring proper detoxification and removal of oestrogen from the system is vital for healthy hormonal balance.

This liver support also helps from the digestive perspective, helping people with cold, sluggish and poor digestion to calm down symptoms such as spasm and bloating, and ensure the liver works optimally to filter the blood it receives direct from the digestive tract, as well as supporting the proper digestion of fats.

Dosing Instructions:

Main Chemical Constituents: Essential oils (including camphor, cineole, and pinene), rosmarinic acid, flavonoids, tannins
